Measuring Basics
How Long Should Curtains Be?
Compare sill, apron, floor, and puddle curtain lengths so you can choose the right finished panel length.
Curtain length depends on where the rod sits and where you want the fabric to end. The same window can need different panel lengths depending on whether you want sill, apron, floor, or puddle curtains.
Length Options
- Sill length ends at or just above the sill.
- Apron length usually drops several inches below the sill.
- Floor length reaches the floor without much extra fabric.
- Puddle length adds extra fabric for a softer decorative look.
Measuring Tip
Measure from the rod position, not only from the top of the window. For outside mount curtains, include the height above the frame in your final length.
